WE NEED ZOMBIES AND LOTS OF THEM!

Last year we had 125 zombies join our entry and won the Fright Stuff Award for being the scariest entry.  This year we're looking for at least twice as many zombies!

Grab all your friends, throw on your best gore, and come join us for the best annual event in Oklahoma!

Below you'll find:

  • Parade Rules
  • Maps
  • Promotional Art
  • Information Links

ABOUT THE PARADE:

The Ghouls Gone Wild Parade is an annual Halloween themed celebration of creativity that started in 2007 and is organized by the Oklahoma Gazette. In 2009, they had over 80 parade entries and a crowd estimate of around 55,000 people!

The parade covers a 1 mile route through downtown Oklahoma City (see maps below) and ends in an area where you'll find food and drink vendors.

Zombie Walk OKC has had a group in every parade and gets bigger and better each year!

RULES OF THE PARADE:

  • 18+ TO WALK IN THE PARADE!
However, we do encourage All Ages to come out and watch the parade as spectators
  • NO WEAPONS OR ANYTHING RESEMBLING WEAPONS!
  • NO THROWING CANDY OR GIFTS AT THE AUDIENCE!
However, you can walk over and hand items to members of the crowd. It's a safety thing.

We will have a few candy bags if anyone wants to volunteer to hand out candy.

  • WE MUST STAY AT LEAST 20 FEET AWAY FROM THE ENTRIES IN FRONT OF AND BEHIND US !
  • TRY NOT TO GET TOO FAR AHEAD OF OR BEHIND THE BULK OF OUR GROUP!
Yes everyone will be moving at different speeds, but we want to try to stay in a big scary swarm instead getting all strung out

Other things happening at the convention that evening:

Rocky Horror Picture Show
Duvy at Darkfaery Subculture Magazine is looking for some zombies to participate in the Rocky Horror performance. Anyone interested can contact her at http://darkfaery-subculture.com or visit the Darkfaery booth at the convention.

In the News & Parade Update

In the News

Somehow some "blood" on a sidewalk caused us to be in the news two days in a row. The publicity is nice, but it must be a REALLY slow news week if some spilled corn syrup and chocolate sauce makes the cut twice. This is probably the only time you'll ever see sundae toppings in the news.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2010!

That's the date that's been announced as the day of the Fourth Annual Ghouls Gone Wild Parade. Mark your calendars now and keep that day free for getting zombified.

Let's gather the biggest zombie horde ever seen in Oklahoma!

Spring is here and the zombies are thawing out! On May 1st, 2010, the dead of Oklahoma will rise and go for a nice springtime walk through Bricktown. Throw on your best gore and come join us!

TIME:

6:15pm - We're starting promptly at 6:15 so try to be there before then. We're expecting the walk to take about an hour or so

LOCATION:

We'll be meeting at a small park at Oklahoma Ave & NE 2nd St. It's just a little north and west of the Ballpark. From there we'll limp our way down towards the theater and loop around the canal area before heading back north. The current expected route should be about 1.5 miles round trip

MAP:

PARKING:

Car pooling is recommended. There's some street parking along 2nd and 3rd Streets and whatever you can find around northern Bricktown.

The city has very recently marked the street spaces as 2-Hour Parking. They don't have meters and I don't know how closely they're watching them but if we stay on schedule we should be able to keep everyone legal

AFTER PARTY:

Rok Bar in Bricktown has offered to host the party with no cover and VIP treatment for zombies

HELP PROMOTE:

Bring your friends!

ZOMBIES! YAY!

Big Zombie Walk OKC News!

We have a brand new website!

ZombieWalkOKC.com has been completely overhauled and rebuilt from the ground up. Let me know if you spot any typos or broken links. If you have any content to contribute, please feel free to send it in! I would love for the site to expand to be one of the most comprehensive resources for zombie walk costume/makeup information.

Does anyone want to volunteer their photo as the main photo for the facebook or twitter pages? It's time for some changes.

Do we have any illustrators in the crowd? I'm building a vacuum table to expand into screen printing posters and would like the first poster to be a promotional piece for Zombie Walk OKC. There's no money involved, but you would get your design hand printed and hopefully we can get some hung up around town to help spread the zombie infection. If there's enough interest in designing a poster, we could even have a poll to let the zombies pick the one that gets printed.

POSTER SPECIFICATIONS
Size: 12x17 (portrait or landscape orientation; it's up to you)
Paper Color: White or anything from frenchpaper.com
Ink Colors: 4 or less (it's my first poster project so I need to keep it somewhat simple)
Required information:
-"Zombie Walk OKC"
-"ZombieWalkOKC.com"
-Something encouraging people to join us
-It probably wouldn't hurt to have an "Also on facebook, twitter, etc" sort of notice

Also for the illustrators, I'm planning to give away 1" buttons to zombie walk participants at future events, so we'll have a need for zombie images that work on a small scale if anyone wants to contribute to those projects.

Anyone have any ideas for events? It is the season when the zombies thaw out and start moving again.

BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAINSSS,
Ron

New Website

Welcome to the new home of Zombie Walk OKC!

This site is built on a fancy content management thingy so it will be easier to update and expand than the old one. Unfortunately there was no way to move user data from the old site so if you'd like to continue receiving occasional email with zombie updates, you'll have to join the new newsletter.

This project is still somewhat under development, so if you see anything weird happen let me know.

Ron
